Lenten Reflections
THURSDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK OF LENT, MARCH 2, 2023
By Clay Young ’23
"Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me."
As we engage in classes, clubs, and extracurriculars for another semester on the Hilltop, it is also time for us to engage in the Lenten season so we may soon celebrate the resurrection of the Lord. Very easily do we get distracted with homework, jobs, or looking forward to what is next, pulling us away from our connection with God. Though this happens unintentionally, now is our time to reignite that flame for Christ. During Lent, we are seeking God, and simultaneously, God is seeking us. To strengthen our faith, we must ask the Lord IN faith. He shall give what we ask for and reveal Himself when we search for Him in faith.
The weather is not the only thing getting warmer during the 40 days of Lent, as do our hearts. The time we spend in prayer, fasting, and almsgiving will be the time where our connection and love for the Lord is deepest. The Lord desires friendship and waits for us every day, and when hearing our prayers, He gives us the joy of His salvation and cleanses our hearts. When we call for help, He answers us, even in the smallest of ways: during an interaction with a new friend on campus, those "a-ha" moments in class, or even how we rest, to name a few. As we engage in classes, clubs, and extracurriculars, let us be vigilant of how God reveals Himself in everyday moments based on what we ask from Him.
