THE EASTER STORY

This specially curated online selection of 20 well-known works is focused on the Easter story. Central to our Catholic identity, the Easter event offers great reassurance, comfort, and hope. Each work is imbued with a unique style and symbolism, with its own kind of presence. Yet collectively they all contain the pathos, intimacy, and delicate attentiveness to the body of Christ in the Easter drama.

PAIRINGS

Share in these “pairings” of works selected from the Chapel Art Center’s permanent collection. What makes two works of art a pair? There is the intentional pairing, as in formal, pendant portraits. Sometimes works are paired by their genre, or period, or by the subject matter. In this case, the pairings are perhaps a bit random, and are surely experimental! These works have been paired by color, design, imagery, memory association, or simply by way of a spontaneous emotional connection! The intention is simple—to inspire thoughtfulness and reflection.

THE CHAPEL ART CENTER

The Alva de Mars Megan Chapel Art Center is Saint Anselm College's gallery for the exhibition of fine art. Founded in 1967, this facility provides a gracious setting for special exhibitions and houses a permanent collection of artworks. It welcomes the campus and general public with exhibitions throughout the academic year.

Formerly the college's chapel, the Chapel Art Center maintains a beautifully decorated vaulted ceiling with allegorical lunettes painted by Father Raphael Pfisterer, O.S.B. (1877-1942) and magnificent stained glass windows. Its uniquely serene ambiance and rich historical significance make for the perfect cultural setting. As a center for the promotion of the fine arts, exhibitions coincide with lectures, tours, concerts, and recitals.

Saint Anselm College seeks to integrate the arts as a vital part of the students' education, by providing the opportunity for the study and exhibition of artwork of varied themes and subjects within the Chapel Art Center. The Center cares for a growing collection of nearly 400 objects, including paintings, works on paper, sculpture, decorative arts, and furniture. The collection includes works from the 15th century through the 21st century from around the globe.
