“Alleluia, alleluia. The virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel. Alleluia, alleluia.” During this season, we are waiting for the coming of Emmanuel so that we can proclaim alleluia, alleluia. In Matthew’s Gospel message, the story of how the birth of Jesus came about is recounted.
“All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means "God is with us." When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.”
The One that the people have been waiting for is almost here. The One who brings hope, healing, justice, mercy, and fulfillment. The One who shall be named Emmanuel, because He is now with us. As Joseph took his wife into his home, we must also take Jesus into ours. We are called to do what the angels of the Lord have commanded us, to invite Christ into our lives, hearts, and homes. Alleluia, alleluia.
